The upgrade of a ketchup bottle labelling machine, at a leading manufacturer of machinery for filling, capping and labelling of bottles, has increased its throughput by 50%, significantly increased its accuracy, productivity, eliminated product waste and improved machine flexibility.

Bumble Bee Foods, which has dipped its toe into the traceability waters before, has added blockchain to the mix providing a much deeper dive into its fish tales. Bumble Bee is the first food company to incorporate SAP Cloud Platform blockchain-as-a-serviceinto its production. The technology gives consumers details about how their food is sourced by using a smart phone to scan a QR code on the package’s label. The information collected in the cloud also helps the manufacturer to keep track of everything that happens along the supply chain, thereby safeguarding the freshness of the food to prevent recalls, illness and infections.

Acquisitions have been redefining the industrial automation landscape over the last few years. Following the software acquisition trend is Mitsubishi Electric’s recent announcement that it will acquire Iconics and its software for SCADA, HMI, IoT, mobile, analytics, and cloud applications. In its announcement, Mitsubishi noted that it “will strengthen Mitsubishi’s software portfolio and technology for the manufacturing, industrial, and building automation markets.” More specifically, Satoshi Takeda, senior deputy general manager of Mitsubishi Electric’s Nagoya Works, said, “The addition of Iconics software, product development, and technology capabilities will allow Mitsubishi to accelerate its e-F@ctory and edge computing solutions.”

GE Digitalannounced with the launch ofPredix Manufacturing Data Cloud (MDC), a purpose-built platform designed to consolidate and transform manufacturing data across plants for enterprise cloud storage and analysis. Used in concert with a traditional manufacturing execution system (MES), Predix MDC gives manufacturers operational analysis in the cloud and greater flexibility of deployment, helping reduce the size of on-premise systems to make them run more efficiently. One of the first adopters of Predix MDC isProcter & Gamble (P&G), one of the world’s largest consumer packaged goods (CPG) companies. P&G has been a long-time customer of GE Digital’s Plant Applications manufacturing execution system (MES) and is leveraging the Predix MDC capabilities by moving manufacturing data to the cloud to run analytics.

Implementing Industry 4.0 technology does not happen overnight. It takes a series of adaptations to accommodate an ever-evolving environment. During theAutomation World Conference & Expolast month, where Industry 4.0 was a prominent theme, two technology experts from Delta Systems & Automationprovided insight into how the company progressed on its 4.0 journey year after year. Over the years, the company was faced with the challenge of how to embrace Industry 4.0 technologies, like the Internet of Things (IoT) without adding layer upon layer of complexity.

With increased connectivity at all levels, it is more important than ever that industrial automation suppliers secure not only networks or individual components but entire automation systems as well. After years of work toward this goal, Emerson has achieved the industry’s first ISASecure System Security Assurance (SSA) Level 1 certification for its DeltaV distributed control system (DCS) and safety instrumented system (SIS) v.14.3. Emerson executives mentioned the certification a couple times during the Emerson Global Users Exchange in San Antonio last fall, noting how it set the company’s DeltaV apart. “It’s the first and only process control system to receive ISASecure SSA Level 1 certification, rather than look at individual components.”

A factory acceptance test (FAT) is critical to verifying capital equipment operability prior to leaving the supplier’s factory.

This webinar discusses the value and application of the OpX Leadership Network’s FAT work product through real-world examples.

In this webinar you will learn:

• What tools the OpX Leadership Network has developed for defining and managing factory acceptance tests.
• How these tools have been applied, and the benefits seen by a large consumer packaged goods company.
• The value of defining the FAT in the early stages of a project as experienced by an equipment manufacturer.
